Using Categories to Direct Curriculum Reform & Evaluation

Recently, Sarah B. McBrien, Curriculum & Assessment Program Manager in the Office of Medical Education at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, discussed the benefits using ExamSoft’s category feature to gather useful data in relation to curriculum review in her webinar, “Using Categories to Direct Curriculum Reform & Evaluation.”

The key takeaways from the presentation include:

1. ExamSoft's data allows for a systemic approach to curriculum reform.

2. Consider the other systems you have in place and how they connect to the data in ExamSoft.

3. You're never too late. Categories can be attached to an item after an exam administration.

McBrien’s presentation gives insight into using data to ensure that programs are delivering quality education. She also discussed the various opportunities ExamSoft offers for category development.

"It's important to respond to changes in student learning in the most appropriate way.”
