Recently, Jayzona Alberto and Jorge Gordinez, Academic managers at Western University of Health Sciences’ College of Dental Medicine discussed the use of ExamSoft for station-based capstone exams in their webinar, “Designing the Ideal Capstone Station-Based Assessment by Maximizing ExamSoft's Best Features.”
The key takeaways from the presentation include:
1. Switching to ExamSoft from traditional paper-based exams has allowed for a decrease in resource costs and an increase in valuable teaching time.
2. ExamSoft rubrics are an excellent feature when administering hands-on exams to measure student clinical performance.
3. ExamSoft’s longitudinal reporting allows for comparison between cohort performance year over year, providing data that wasn’t easily available when using a traditional paper-based exam model.
The presentation gives insight into ExamSoft use via demonstrations and offers multiple tips for implementation. Specific benefits and challenges, including reductions in paper resources as well as faculty buy-in issues, were also discussed.
“It’s really crucial to create mock exams and test the software on both Mac and Windows operating systems to ensure the most successful exam environment as possible.”
