Curriculum Mapping and Assessments Technology Mashups Made Easy

August 13, 2015
Presented by Patricia Camberos, Systems Operations Analyst, Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine, and Dr. Gerald R. Thrush, Assistant Dean, Pre-clinical Education, Western University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine How does one know, in a practical, actionable way, the gap that exists between what we believe is important for students to learn and what we actually evaluate? How can we know, at an instant, the measurable relationship between curriculum content, who teaches it, the methods (e.g., learner activities) used, and actual student performance on institutional, program, and course learning outcomes, as well as national board examination performance? At the College of Osteopathic Medicine of the Pacific, we are developing a new, powerful technology, using a unique combination of ExamSoft, SharePoint, and Microsoft Office, that greatly facilitates the automated gathering, analysis, and visualization of the relationships between what is taught, what is evaluated, who teaches, how one teaches, and actual student performance. The technology empowers faculty and administration, in a way not previously possible, to readily identify and correct potential gaps in evaluation, content delivery, and teaching methodologies, from the entire program level down to individual learner activities. Our solution is readily applicable, and can be recreated at all levels of higher education, from undergraduate, to graduate, and professional school domains. Recorded July 7th, 2015
